Lena Elnora(Durst)Malott, 75 BY MONTE VISTA — Lena Elnora Malott, 75, of Monte Vista, Colo. passed away on Friday, August 18, 2006 in Santa Fe, N. M. Elnora was born on Feb. 11, 1931, in Goodnight, Okla., to John Cecil and Anna Leona (McCandless) Durst.

Elnora was affectionately known by those who loved her as Mom, Grandma, Auntie, Cuz, and Friend. To her friends she was known as “Eddie.” She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monte Vista. Even though in the latter years she was unable to attend she loved her church family. Elnora was a member of the Mellotones and Rocky Mountain Stage Productions. She had a passion to sing and as a young girl she would perform for her parents’ friends. In the later years she performed in “Show Boat” as Queenie and “South Pacific” as Bloody Mary. She was also in the chorus of many other plays. From the time her grandchildren where born even to date she would sing to them. Elnora had a great sense of humor and found a positive in everything. Her smile could light up a room when she entered. She enjoyed crocheting and made an afghan for each of her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter. She kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles and games shows. She was an avid Bronco fan even when they were the underdogs. Her greatest treasure was her family and spending time with them.

Elnora met Charles Gerald “Jerry” Malott while working for the Monte Vista Journal. They were wed before a justice of the peace on Oct. 25, 1973, in Monte Vista. Jerry passed away in March of 1982. Elnora also worked at Skeff’s Service Center, in Monte Vista.

Elnora is survived by her children, Kenny (Cheryl) Gilmer of Anchorage, Alaska, Meg Temple of Santa Fe, Gary (Jeaneen) McLaren and Anna (Ned) Libby, both of Monte Vista, and Peggy Biggs of Aurora, Colo.; one sister-in-law, Mary Jane Durst, of Alta Vista, Kan.; 14 grandchildren and one great grandchildren. Her parents, Cecil and Leona, her husband, Jerry, and her two brothers, LeRoy and Larry, all precede her in death.

Viewing will be held Thursday, August 24, 2006 from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, August 25, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Monte Vista.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mellotones, in care of Strohmayer’s Funeral Home, 205 Broadway, Monte Vista, CO 81144.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Strohmayer’s Funeral Home, in Monte Vista.
