1935-2006
WILLIAM O. “BILL” McDERMITH, 70 By CLIFTON — William O. McDermith, 70, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at his residence in Clifton after a short battle with cancer.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1935 to Virgil Vivian and Neva D. McDermith in the Carmel District in the San Luis Valley, where he spent most of his life.
He worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Department of Interior for 38 years, before an early retirement. He attended St. Johns Military Academy of Salina, Kans. and served his country in the US Navy beginning in 1956. He was stationed on the USS Vulcan out of Norfolk, Va.
Bill married Carolyn Jones on June 23, 1957 in Monte Vista.
His parents, one sister, Joyce Bodley, and two infant daughters precede him in death. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Carolyn J. McDermith of the family home in Clifton; two sons, Billy Kent (Kerri) Forsythe of Downey, Calif. and Monty Scott (Lori) McDermith of Cedaredge; two daughters, Lindy JoAnne Gwinn of Cedaredge and Lyla Leeanne Dunham of Parachute: one sister, Leona Tilden of Monte Vista; 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Memorial service took place at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction. The Memorial Service was continued Wednesday, Feb. 8, at the Clifton Bible Chapel in Clifton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bill McDermith Fund in care of Clifton Bible Chapel at 523 - 32 Road - Clifton, CO 81520.
